Handymen for Christ
Mission Statement:
"Handymen For Christ exists to help open hearts to the love of Jesus by modeling that love and giving hope through the improving of the homes and/or vehicles of those in need." It is not our mission to compete with local contractors, but to focus our help on those who could not otherwise afford it.
God used a message from Proverbs 13:12 by Ken Rudolph on January 28, 2009, to convince Cliff to launch his own ministry. After sharing his burden and praying with Pastor Jones, he formed a board for his new ministry. Handymen for Christ was approved by the deacons to function as a ministry of First Baptist Church of Otsego. Since then, God has blessed their ministry to become an independent ministry to the community.
If you would like to donate materials, monetary gifts or your time, please contact Cliff at (269) 271-2112 or email cliffshirleyreber@yahoo.com. Donations are tax deductible and receipts are available upon request.
Sowing Seeds of Hope Community Garden
We have started this ministry with the intention of helping people learn how to grow their own food, cook their own food, preserve their own food and learn how to be good stewards of the soil and growing things our Creator God has given us to enjoy.
Who – Anyone in the Otsego/Plainwell area that would like to grow a plot of vegetables but has no place to do it. This can be a family, individual or group.
What – Each group or individual that signs up will be assigned a plot in the community garden which is located on Court St. The participants must sign up and agree to abide by rules developed by the church by May 17, 2021.
When – The plots will be tilled up around May 17, 2021. Each participant can then begin to use their plot to grow vegetables. We may schedule some times before that date for cleanup and preparation, and may also have a work day before planting to put up deer fencing.
How – Please join our email list on our site. This will also be the way we let you know about upcoming classes and any other information we need to relay to you. You will be contacted by the organizers and given instructions and help to plan your garden. Every Saturday morning throughout the gardening season, a person will be available at the garden to give gardening tips and advice and provide some hoes and other tools to help with the garden.
Also – classes will be offered during the gardening season, open to all, no charge. The topics will include: cooking with your veggies, bread making, canning/preserving your veggies and how to cook nourishing meals on a budget. The schedule for these classes will announced after the project begins.
